When I was speaking in New Zealand at a women’s leadership conference, I met 18-year-old Nina. She was wrestling with big questions: Have you ever wanted to help someone but didn’t know how to? What do I do when a friend or loved one slips into a place of helplessness or desperation?

Let me start by saying Nina was wise beyond her years. At such a young age, she had a strong sense of service and interconnectedness to others. In our conversation, she drew upon her own experiences to discover how to best support friends in need. The answer gave her clues not only about helping others, but also about what may be her deepest passion and calling. Tune in to hear this brilliant and brave woman share her soul.

No matter how tough you are physical pain can stop you in your tracks.

When pain first shows up, you might adjust your body position, make accommodations to relieve pressure from a joint, or hope if you don’t acknowledge it, it might go away. But persistent chronic pain isn’t usually something you can just power through. There’s a good reason for its presence: your body is trying to get your attention! Think of it like a smoke alarm warning you that a fire is near.

When I met Christine in New Zealand, she was frustrated about her severe hip pain that had been going on for over a year. Together, we dug a little deeper to uncover what was really happening. What we discovered surprised us both.

Often when we don’t address issues, they surface in unexpected ways in our physical body. Join us to learn how to better interpret you own body’s signals—especially when they don’t make logical sense.

Ever wish you could be more articulate and confident in your conversations? I hear this question so often, “How can I get my sister, my partner or my boss to communicate better?” The good news is it only takes one person to change the outcome of a conversation—and that person is YOU!

While I could write an entire book on the subject (and I did—TalkRx), let’s give you the Cliff Notes. There are five key steps that make all the difference. Watch as Wake Up, Wild Heart host Ana Paula and I discuss how to do this and change how you communicate in your very next conversation!

Isn’t it interesting how we often don’t pay attention to boundaries until after they’ve been crossed?

Your body is a sophisticated alarm system that immediately sends physicaldiscomfort rippling through your body (your heart racing or your stomach turning) to notify you that there’s a problem. My physical signals speak loudly when I think I’m being silenced and feel disrespected. My throat constricts, and I struggle to take in a full deep breath.

Each person has unique boundaries and ways their body communicates a violation. So you don’t get thrown off guard, why not be proactive and define yours? It will save you a lot of grief! A powerful level of clarity and confidence comes when you are able to articulate your boundaries. Join me to discover yours and how they can guide you.

A common communication blunder is one that most people don’t even realize they’ve created. It’s called the drama triangle. In efforts to support and listen to your friends, you may unknowingly perpetuate drama and be the source of unclear communication.

Two new friends asked me about this when we were in Bali. Watch as together, we unravel the drama triangle and talk about the best way to get out of it. It takes courage to recognize your role and step out, but in the long run, this bold move will simplify and solidify your relationships.

Tune in as I respond to one woman’s dilemma on how to keep her relationships in tact while she sorts through what matters most. It may seem tricky, but it’s not. Success comes from honest and compassionate communication with yourself and with others.

When you take the path less traveled, you can expect resistance—it comes with the territory. Every decade, I’ve made a major change in my lifestyle and career. And often I am met with pushback from the people who are close to me.

When I met Jess, a South African traveling in Bali, I resonated with her struggle. She had chosen an unconventional career path that the people close to her thought was unstable and irresponsible—and they let her know it. It’s bold and courageous to break away from societal norms. Watch as we discuss how to best respond to others’ judgments and opinions while remaining true to yourself. A few key questions make the answers very clear.

Do you notice your own reaction and irritability—even toward the people you love? Do tasks, interactions and hurdles that used to seem insignificant, feel overwhelming? Is your body beyond exhausted, with no rest in sight?

How has a constant state of stress become our cultural norm? Some people even thrive on it. That is, until they don’t. I know because I was one of those people. I consider myself a high-functioning, type A over-achiever. And in spite of my extensive education, hard work and complex problem-solving skill-set, I experienced burnout a few short years into my medical practice.

Recently, I traveled to New Zealand to speak at WorldWomen17, and had the honor of sharing my story with renowned journalist Kim Hill. As an interviewer, she’s one tough cookie! This week’s podcast/blog is where I revealed what led to my burnout, the lessons learned and how it was a catalyst to unite my career with life’s passion.

If you find yourself running on empty, tune in to discover how to ease stress and beat burnout.

When you've discovered the key to getting through a struggle, such as depression or an illness, don’t you just want to share it with the world? You know that desire to sing from the rooftop and let everyone with ears know the good news! While it’s exciting and your intention is to help others, not everyone may receive your story with the same enthusiasm. So don’t be surprised if anxiety creeps in. You might even hear a little voice in your head telling you it’s too risky to put yourself out there. It’s easy to start thinking of all the what ifs.

What if people think you’re crazy? What if you feel vulnerable for sharing one of your challenges? What if it’s a disaster? While in Bali, I spoke with Cassie about this very issue. She was so excited to share what she has learned over the past 20 years while battling depression. For any of you who have battled depression or know someone who has, don’t miss this video. Watch as we work through her fears about criticism and see how it can help you!

Throw their new partner into the mix, and you’ re bound to face uncharted territory. When I innocently sat on a plane next to Debbie, Frank and their adorable white Shih Tzu, little did I know our conversation would uncover a decades-old pattern of modern family drama. (Yes, it’ s true, TalkRx even happens on flights.) Together, we revealed what’ s been plaguing their relationship for thirty years. Heartbreak sucks. And it doesn’t matter what side you’re on. We’ve all experienced it in some way. Whether it’s a romantic relationship that has come to an end or a platonic one you’ve outgrown, is there a way to ease the pain? Yes there is. (And staying in a relationship long after it’s expired isn’t the answer.)

One day in Bali, Jess asked me this tough question. Watch as we illuminate the nuances of a breakup conversation. Learn how to stay true to yourself and be honest with these compassionate conversation must-haves. Moving on can be painful, kind of messy, or clear and compassionate. The choice is up to you.

When someone suddenly explodes or gets highly emotional in a conversation, it can be surprising, to say the least. Especially if you have no idea what’s causing such a strong reaction. Of course, you don’t. That’s because emotional landmines are invisible to everyone involved—until one is accidentally triggered. Don’t panic, you just need a map to guide you through this terrain.

Cassie, a beautiful woman who lives in Bali, wanted a strategy to avoid setting off emotional landmines in others. Watch as we explore the three vital steps she can take to respond to an out-of-proportion response in someone else. They’re simple. They’re easy. So you don’t want to miss this one!

We all long to belong. In fact, the need for connection is embedded in our DNA. But it’s easy to get confused when we’re trying to navigate our own desires in conjunction with the wishes of others. For example, our family and friends want the best for us. The problem comes in because they often have expectations about the right way our lives should play out—married by a certain age, white picket fence, secure job and 3 kids in tow by 40...sound familiar?

The interesting part is that sometimes these expectations are verbalized, and sometimes they’re not. Whether you’re currently in a relationship or simply pondering the possibility of one, don’t miss this deeply personal video! In it, you’ll meet a brave woman willing to discover, on camera, exactly why she’s single—so that you can learn along with her! Watch Salma figure out what she really wants.
